If you’re new to selling on Etsy you might be creating products based on what you personally like. This is not necessarily wrong, but you need to keep customer needs front and centre at all times.
Part of this is recognising that there are evergreen products which can sell all year, and seasonal products which only sell at certain times.
Seasonal sales are massive on Etsy, so for many of us it is essential to be prepared for holidays and occasions well in advance.
I thought I’d put together a handy reference of important dates in my experience as a digital seller. These are fairly US-centric as this is where most of my customers are based.
In terms of prep, I’m usually doing that 2 months ahead, as some of these peak up to a month in advance of the date.
Holidays & occasions
In 2026:
- 1 January — New Year’s Day
- 14 February — Valentine’s Day
- 17 March — St Patrick’s Day
- 5 April — Easter Sunday
- 10 May — Mother’s Day (US)
- 4 July — Independence Day (US)
- End August — Back to school (US)
- 31 October — Halloween
- 26 November — Thanksgiving
- 27 November — Black Friday
- 25 December — Christmas Day
Start of seasons
In the northern hemisphere:
- March — Spring
- June — Summer
- September — Fall / Autumn
- December — Winter
Seasons begin between 20–23rd astronomically, but I use the 1st since I like to be ready early!
All of these occasions have provided opportunities for my shop, and there are certainly more, particularly if your shop is focusing on a non-US market.
